XERI COLLECTIVE’S. WINTER PLAYLIST

Listen on

We are Xeri Collective (pronounced as che-rry), a multi-disciplinary music and art label composed of a mix of national and international producers, designers, musicians, and DJs. Music runs through our veins, and as owners of the label (Jimeno & Irena), we always are “digging” for vintage tunes or freshly produced tracks by our favorites. The main objective of our collective is to return to that slower vibe— just good dancing, good music, and good vibes. In addition, we want to focus on the artistic and cultural aspects of events and parties, making an ambiance that brings people together, not pushes them away.

Winter is the perfect time to plug in your headphones, dig your toes in the sand or pool, and get up to date on some great albums!

For something exotic and vintage, we highly recommend Habibi Funk´s An Eclectic Selection From Arab World Part 2: encompassing jazz, rock, reggae, funk, soul, world, disco, and psychedelic tunes all from the Arab world. The label is dedicated to busting stereotypes of the Arab world, pulling into the incredible light disco and jazz tracks that could have been lost forever.

Another one of our favorites is Late Night Tales by Khruangbin, a mixtape from Houston’s worldly psych trio that digs deep into funk classics, spiritual jazz, and unusual finds from South Korea, Belarus and Nigeria.

Suppose you are trying to get more affiliated with the electronic music scene. In that case, we have some beautiful suggestions for you in Mexico, some special DJs and producers we would love to recommend:

Colectivo Miramar´s mission is to preserve and spread endangered rhythms across Mexico and planet Earth. This shy duo will have you wondering about the vinyls in their record collection as they spin some of the sexiest, most obscure disco sounds you’ve probably heard. Make sure to follow their moves on their Soundcloudpage: soundcloud.com/colectivomiramar.

Tropicaza is a well-respected underground cumbia collector and a must for your ears when visiting Mexico. In fact, Tropicaza is a synonym for “waxed”

cultural music. You can find him here: soundcloud.com/tropicaza.

Local producers are essential to keep your eyes and ears on. Eduardo Castillo is one of our favorite performers. His concert series Mardeleva is one of our favorites. This live performance is a hypnotic gathering of souls. Mardeleva starts slow, like a soft meditation or trance; the rhythms and frequencies speed up and bind the crowd together as everyone begins to move to the seductive sound..

¨We place our trust on the pulse of the unknown,
a seductive dance, a tantalizing improvisation.”
