Beta Astral creates colorful hand-dyed and rebellious organic hats that have become famous amongst Tulum fashionistas and global celebrities. This Paraguayan artist, fashion designer, and DJ calls Tulum and Valladolid home, and we are so excited to have her creations in our shop at La Valise Tulum. We got to know the artist closely over the past few weeks as we planned our store inventory.

You have become very well known in Tulum for your distinctive brands and your great artistic style. What brought you to Tulum in the first place?

The first time I arrived, I fell in love with its incredible beaches, its full moon nights, and Tulum’s special energy. At that time, I was a DJ, and the music scene was very interesting. I felt that I could grow artistically and spiritually.

And what makes you stay here?

As it is a very young town, I feel that there are many more opportunities here than in other cities to develop yourself.

Can you tell us a little about how you work? What inspires you?

My creation process is very empirical. Everything inspires me, I work a lot with the materials that my surroundings give me, but my infinite muse is nature; it never ceases to amaze me.

What are your favorite places to go to in Valladolid?

The city itself is very picturesque. I like it very much because it has an air of history, the people are very friendly and educated. I like to ride my bike along the Chichimeca road to visit the different cenotes.
